Dental implant process

To replace a missing tooth, our dentists use a dental implant (similar to a screw) made of titanium, that mimics the natural tooth root. After osseointegration (your jaw bone growing in and hardening around the implant) a porcelain crown that looks like a natural tooth is put in place on op of the implant.

How long does the process take?

The initial dental implant surgery usually takes about 1-2 hours for each implant being placed by our team. After this step is complete, for most patients, we will wait about 3-6 months before the final restoration of the new tooth replacement.

How much do for dental implants cost?

Each case is unique and the best way to ensure an accurate quote is by visiting us at Hood River Dental. However single dental implants in the Columbia River Gorge area usually cost between $1,500 - $2,000 per implant. Some patients are only going to need a single implant, whereas others will need several because they’re missing multiple teeth. Working in quadrants on multiple implants as once can sometimes create the opportunity for an efficiency discount.

What is the best age for dental implants?

Because of the way our facial bones grow and change, studies show that for some people, the best long-term esthetics are achieved if the patient waits until the age of 25 or 30, but in some cases, implants can be placed as early as 18 years old. As for our elderly patients, we routinely see patients getting implants into their 80s to ensure comfortable and confident eating throughout their senior years.

What They’re Saying

“My first appointment with Hood River Dental was in 2006 ... over the years I have continued routine care with Julia. Her expert care and knowledge has helped me maintain excellent oral hygiene. My team consisting of Dr. Haynie, Dr. Payne, and Dr. Andy Burton have performed restorations, cavity fillings, same-day crowns, reconstructive surgery, implant placement and grafting. My confident smile was restored with the painless Invisalign. Any fears or reservations I had were met with honesty, respect, and time for clarification. Highly recommend!”

 Will I experience any discomfort?

The procedure itself is not painful since it is performed with either general or local anesthesia to completely numb the mouth. After dental implantation, once the numbness wears off, mild pain may be noticed by the patient. Many patients report it is more like a general soreness and some swelling in the area. The discomfort usually only lasts a few days days. However, some patients may continue to experience soreness at the implant site for up to 10 days.

Can dental implants be done in one day?

Same-day implants can sometimes be done in a single procedure, ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours. However, it is important to note that you won't actually leave the office with your permanent teeth (the final crown will not be placed until a later visit). The best way to find out if you are eligible for same-day implants (also known as immediate load implants) is through a consultation at Hood River Dental.
