Are our skulls out-evolving us?

A story we hear all too often when probed about a child’s sleeping patterns, “Oh! He gets up several times a night! And when it’s time to wake up for school I can hardly rouse him!” Or, “she sleeps just fine but her bed sheets are a mess when I go into her room in the morning!”

Believe it or not, these subtle clues can tell us a lot about the delicate balance of the human airway. Any change in diet, nutrition and posture can create major impacts that are now being seen more frequently due to epigenetics passed on through generations, up to 250 years ago. The following article is a fantastic summary of the scientific community coming together and recognizing difference in these facial growth patterns. We are learning more, building research on the effects of inadequate facial growth as well as the subsequent health ramifications that plague much of our society. In our youth we can see the effect manifest as ADHD progressing to Sleep apnea in adult-hood. We are excited when others promote this education to the general public! We are concerned with ‘traditional’ approaches of just making a straight smile and not addressing the root cause for a long term solution.

Our team at Hood River Dental have been successfully helping those suffering from health issues associated with the articles topics. What we are most excited about?! Helping children by implementing treatment at a younger age to optimize the growth and development of our communities and therefor preventing the various health issues that can follow.

The article is, “Our Skulls are Out-Evolving Us” written by Katherine Reynolds Lewis.
